About
Berber lodge is 25 minutes from Marrakech Menara Airport and 30 minutes from the city, 10 minutes from Lake Lalla Takerkoust, 45 minutes from the Ourika Valley, and a 2-hour drive from Essaouira. The owner, Romain Michel Meniere is a French-Swiss interior designer living in Morocco since 2002. He worked and participated in a number of projects such as Bab Ourika, Nomad Coffee and many other private projects. With his architect friends, Romain opened his own place with a goal to discover the Berber culture, their customs, norms, craftsmanship and architecture.
Inspired by traditional Berber architecture, it is built on an old Olive Garden using local resources and craftsmen. The walls have been built with the garden search to create adobe briques, whilst the old olive trees have been preserved and eucalyptus, cedar and bamboo trees used to create ceilings. Terracotta tiles, hand made in the neighbouring village and beautiful 20th century designed furniture can be seen throughout. Located between the olive trees in the middle of the garden, the pool at Berber lodge is 20 meters long and 7 meters wide.
The restaurant has a set menu offering up a feast of Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes, using local ingredients and seasonal produce from their organic vegetable garden. There is also a fantastic selection of cocktails to enjoy (with particular mention to the NANA Mojito), which are made using homemade syrups and shrubs.
