Bisate
Bisate is the newest and most luxurious of the mountain lodges, located in the heart of the forest close to the park headquarters, providing an excellent base for gorilla trekking. It also boasts views of volcanoes, Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeono.
Owned and run by the luxury safari company Wilderness Safaris, Bisate is Rwanda's flagship gorilla lodge. Wonderfully designed, Bisate is a truly stunning property with a price tag to match.
About
The lodge is located next to Volcanoes National Park in the west of Rwanda, sat on the natural slopes of its own extinct volcanic core. The land that the lodge now sits on was once farmland and the team have at Bisate have worked hard to reforest the area with indigenous plants, maintain the beauty of the forest and its home to many species of bird. The lodge is made of a communal dining/lounge area and six stand-alone domes for luxury and unique accommodation.
Rooms
The six forest villas at Bisate are truly memorable. Inspired by the architecture of the ancient royal palace of the Rwanda monarchy, the suites at Bisate are dome-shaped and covered in thatch and bamboo thickets. Although its exterior is traditionally ‘Rwandan’, its interior contrasts with fresh and modern decor, including bold tones of grey and green to reflect its location in the heart of the mountains.
Activity
The main activity at Bisate is trekking with one of the ten habituated gorilla groups of the Volcano National Park. The lodges offers a range of walks around the property, particularly good for those interested in birding and the current reforestation programmes. Visits to the lava tunnels of the Musanze Caves and the Iby’wacu cultural village are also offered, as well as seeing the endemic golden monkey.
