Chongwe Camp
Chongwe River Camp has one of the most picturesque locations of any camp in the Lower Zambezi Valley. It stands under a large grove of tall winterthorn trees, whose seed pods often attract numerous elephants into the camp.
Rooms
Spacious and comfortable, the 9 Meru-style tents are kept cool under a canopy of albida thorn trees and have open-air bathrooms and showers with a view. Chongwe also offers 2 stylishly relaxed suites, Albida and Cassia, perfect for honeymooners or families. With their own private butler to cater for your every need, all that’s left to do is relax and drink in the magnificent views.
Facilities
A large canvas roof suspended from the trees houses a bar and chill-out area, the perfect spot from which to watch the constant procession of animals around (and in!) camp. Down on the water’s edge, traditional safari chairs surround the fireplace where guests congregate in the evening before eating al fresco under the glittering stars.
Activities
Tiger-fishing (catch and release) is a speciality at Chongwe and the guides are all expert fishermen who will lend a hand when required! Day and night drives are offered in the park and the surrounding GMA and we fully recommend an all day drive, complete with sumptuous picnic lunch, to make the most of the varied terrain and game. Walking is also spectacular with trails leading into the foothills of the escarpment, as are the water-based activities by canoe or boat.
