Borana
Borana Lodge is located at the heart of Borana Conservancy in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. With an arid landscape, ancient indigenous forests, and high-altitude moorlands, Borana is in a prime location for both wildlife and breathtaking scenery.
The lodge was built entirely from local materials by local craftsmen and the Dyer family, who are still on site and actively involved. Borana is also home to Kenya's newest and most successful rhino sanctuary.
Camp
In the communal areas, you'll find a captivating view of a lake, a favored watering hole for wildlife, ensuring constant activity – particularly the entertaining antics of young elephants. Indulge in meals crafted with fresh produce sourced from the ranch and complemented by wines from various corners of the world, all served in the inviting dining room. Relax and take in the scenery through the expansive windows of the lounge. Step outside to appreciate the predominantly indigenous garden and unwind by the infinity pool, boasting a view that is truly unparalleled.
Rooms
Borana Lodge has four stand-alone cottages with exceptional views. Each of these cottages are unique, designed with the hillside in mind, not forgetting the finer details which make for true comfort. Two further cottages provide the perfect refuge for families; a sitting room is shared between a double and a twin so parents can rest assured their children are safe in the room next door. Each cottage is built out of rock and cedar with a thatched roof. They all have open fireplaces, lit each evening with a basket of sustainably sourced firewood nearby along with verandas with breath-taking views. The bathrooms are spacious and have both baths and showers which look out over the wilds of Africa.
Activity
There's an abundance of activities catering to all preferences. Engage in day and evening game drives, explore the wilderness on horseback or through guided walking safaris, go mountain biking, indulge in excellent birdwatching, try your hand at fly fishing, participate in anti-poaching efforts, visit a permaculture farm, and, weather permitting, experience the thrill of paragliding! Alternatively, you can opt for a leisurely day at the lodge, savoring the pool against the stunning backdrop of Samangua Valley. While venturing out, keep an eye out for African wild dogs, spotted and striped hyenas, a variety of zebras and antelopes, and several species of cats.
