Cottar's 1920s
Cottar’s 1920s safari camp is located within its own private conservancy, next to Kenya's renowned Masai Mara Reserve. Established by Calvin and Louise Cottar in the mid-1990s, they are fifth-generation family safari operators, the oldest established in Kenya.
Camp
There are two main communal areas under canvas that serve as spaces for guests to unwind, engage in leisurely activities, and dine in an elegant 1920s ambiance. Indulge in a post-safari relaxation by booking a spa massage or enjoying a refreshing swim in the pool. Later, savour the serenade of baboons and nocturnal whispers as you recline by the fire-pit with your evening drink.
Rooms
The camp offers a total of 10 cream canvas tents (including two charming honeymoon tents, five double tents, and three family suites), all evoking the essence of the 1920s with romantic mosquito-netted beds, ensuite bathrooms, and modern conveniences for your comfort. Family suites feature cozy living areas with fireplaces. Ensuring privacy and tranquility, the tents cater to a diverse range of guests, from honeymooners to families with young children. Adjacent to the camp, the private Cottar’s Bush Villa boasts its own expansive swimming pool.
Activity
With the largest concentration of terrestrial wildlife on the planet, the Masai Mara offers abundant opportunities for observation and photography. Embark on guided day and night game drives, explore smaller species and avian life on walking safaris, or unwind with a gin and tonic on the veranda while taking in the panoramic vistas stretching across the Mara and Serengeti plains. Experience the hospitality of a Masai community; these interactions are warmly welcomed and conducted with utmost respect for cultural sensitivities.
