Onguma Fort
Onguma is a beautifully designed Fort, where African style meets Moroccan and Indian influence. Unfenced and on the edge of Etosha National Park, there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen, even before you head out on a game drive.
About
The Fort is unlike any other and the only one of its kind in Namibia. It is built in the perfect spot to give guests one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia – overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees. As you enter The Fort, you'll notice the towering walls and stone-cladded features of it's exterior, along with a huge tower, providing elevated views across the Etosha and Fisher's Pan. The Fort's design has a classical African feel combined with a touch of Moroccan and Indian influence, characterised by a selection of the most beautiful antique windows and doors.
Rooms
The Fort consists of The Sultan Suite, 11 Bush Suites and 1 Honeymoon Suite, all situated adjacent to the Main Fort. Every Bush Suite is completely private and about 50 meters apart from one another and is equipped with a bar fridge, and an air-conditioner for those warmer days. The spacious bathroom has both an inside shower as well as an outside shower area. From every area of the room, wooden decks lead you towards the outside seating area and sun loungers for just relaxing and enjoying the extraordinary view. In addition, the one and only Sultan Suite is situated inside the Main Tower of the main complex. It has a large beautifully designed bedroom that leads into a lounge area and out onto a small private viewing deck. The lounge is equipped with a satellite television system, a bar fridge and telephone facilities. And for those warm evenings, you have an air-conditioner as well. The large bathroom has a wonderful open shower area, as well as a bath in which to relax and reflect upon your day’s experiences.
Food
The food at Onguma Fort is excellent, setting a high standard from the moment you wake up. First thing in the morning there is a large breakfast spread for guests to help themselves, inclusive of fresh yoghurts, fruit compote, granola, fruit salad, fresh bread and pastries, a selection of cheeses, fresh juices and of course teas and coffee. In addition to this guests can also order themselves a cooked breakfast from their menu such as scrambled egg and bacon! For those embarking on a full day's game drive, picnic lunches can be organised, otherwise, guests can enjoy their lunch options from the dining room as they watch the animals come and go from the watering hole. Dinner is usually served al-fresco on the decking, lit by candlelight, and usually offers guests a choice of two out of three courses with mains such as Oryx steak and honey and mustard chicken.
