About
Within the sprawling 74,000-acre Mara Conservancy, which accommodates a plethora of lodges, Offbeat has skillfully etched its own distinctive niche in this bountiful wildlife haven, far removed from the throngs of tourists. Nestled unobtrusively along the serene banks of the Olare Orok River, their small tented bush camp is unencumbered by fences or pretense. Positioned away from the airstrip and the cluster of other camps in the vicinity, it affords you a greater degree of privacy as you gaze from your well-appointed tent across the expansive plains. Moreover, they can proudly lay claim to hosting their own resident lion pride!
Rooms
Offbeat Mara has five tents that are set up as either doubles or twins, with a large double bed and a large single bed in the tent. All tents have flush loos, safari showers and jugs of water for the basins. The tents have a large verandah, with a table for private dining and chairs to relax on. They also have two family tents. Each has two sleeping areas, one with a large double bed and the other with two or three single beds. There are two safari showers, loos and basins in these tents. The tents have a large verandah, with a table for private dining and chairs to relax on.
Wildlife
This is why you come to the Mara! The wildlife in this area is extraordinary with huge numbers of plains game and with that, all the big cats. Certain prides of lion in the area have become world famous thanks to the Big Cat Diary, and their own local pride, known as the Offbeat Pride, which are almost part of the family! Their guides know every member of the pride and all the history that goes with them over the past 14 years. Game viewing is exceptional all year round, but from July to October you will also get to experience the annual wildebeest migration in its hundreds of thousands. The 'Secret Season' of January to March is often as rewarding, with clear skies, short grass and the Loita wildebeest migration coming to Mara North Conservancy.
